GROVELAND -- It didn't figure to be a titanic defensive struggle, and it wasn't. But playoff-bound Leesburg had enough offensive weapons to defeat South Lake 39-22 at Silver Eagle Field on Friday night.
The victory sent the Yellow Jackets, runners-up in Class 4A, District 6, into the playoffs with an 8-2 record. South Lake finished at 3-7.
South Lake went three-and-out to start the game, and, after a 34-yard punt by D.J. Adams, Tory Harrison took quarterback Mark Smith's handoff and ran for a 60-yard touchdown. Lance Pemble's kick made it a 7-0 Leesburg lead.
South Lake went three-and-out again, but this time, the center snap went far over Adams' head, and into the end zone for a safety to make it 9-0. Pemble hit a 49-yard field goal to up the lead to 12-0.
