LEESBURG - The Leesburg Yellow Jackets will be shooting for their first Orange Belt Conference football championship here tonight as they face the underdog Eustis Panthers at 8 p.m.
Coach Ed Stack's well balanced Leesburg squad will be heavily favored to wrap up its fifth straight OBC victory and the conference crown. Melbourne, Winter Park, and Apopka are still in the running for a clear cut title or a share of first place but would be removed from contention if the Jackets win tonight.
Leesburg, idle last week, has rolled past Inverness, Apoka, Lakeview, Cocoa, St. Leo, Winter Park and Fletcher while losing only to Sanford.
Eustis, meanwhile, has experienced a dismal season in which the Panthers dropped their first six starts before tripping Mount Dora, 14-6. They lost their seventh last Friday as Deland administered a 40-7 trouncing.
Leesburg closes its regular season at Melbourne and Eustis finishes against Lakeview in games scheduled for Dec. 4.
