LAKE WEIR — The Leesburg Yellow Jackets survived a poor first half showing to soundly defeat the Lake Weir Hurricanes 38-18 at Lake Weir. Leesburg mounted an incredible second half ground game to overcome numerous penalties and turnovers in the first half.

The game pitted two different styles, with Lake Weir relying on the passing of sophomore quarterback Cory McCoy, and Leesburg using a solid game with a strong showing from senior running Anthony Walker and junior fullback Robert Fields. Leesburg scored first after an interception by senior linebacker Seth O'Hara, which placed the ball on the Lake Weir 14-yard line.

On the first play from scrimmage, senior running back Derald Tucker ran for 14 yards to score a touchdown. Lake Weir returned the favor on the next possession by scoring after a very short drive off a 34-yard pass to senior wide receiver Brent Hicks. After a couple of turnovers and a Lake Weir field goal, Leesburg initiated a successful drive, that allowed Fields to score on a l0-yard off-tackle run, with 3:24 left in the first half. The score at halftime was a close 18-15 in favor of Lake Weir.
