Ocala Wildcats Defeat Local Jackets 20-0, November 21, 1944

The Ocala hard-driving backs together with a good passing attack defeated the Jackets in their home coming game 20-0. The Jackets fought hard but were unable to stop the powerful Wildcat line. Ocala ran up 14 first downs to 2 for Leesburg. Michael, Ocala's tail back, was the leading yard gainer with 142 yards.

Ocala kicked off to Leesburg with Williams kicking for the Wildcats. It was a short kick to Carlton on the 35 yard line. Unable to make a first down Broadway kicked out. Ocala got the ball on their own 25 yard line. The first Michael tried a pass, but it was intercepted by Broadway on Ocala's 46-yard line. Two plays later Bennett fumbled and  Ocala recovered on their own 43-yard line. After running two first downs and passing one, the quarter ended with Ocala on the Jacket's 6-yard line.


Two plays after the second  quarter opened Gay, Ocala's fullback, bucked over for the first score of the game. Chazell kicked the extra point. Ocala kicked to Leesburg and recovered the kick on the Leesburg 41-yard line. Ocala was unable to make a first down and Leesburg got the ball on their own 39-yard line. With Broadway and Bennett running the ball for two first downs but unable to make the third, Broadway kicked and Ocala got the ball on their own 22-yard line. With a hard driving attack by Michael, McCully, and Gay, Ocala ran the ball down to the Leesburg 21-yard line. Then on a pass from Michael to Chazal, Ocala got their second touchdown. The pass was good for the extra point. Ocala kicked off again and the half ended while the ball was in play.

During the half the Ocala and Leesburg bands performed on the field. The Ocala band did some beautiful marching on the field. Then the Leesburg band put on a good laugh out of the crowd.



The third quarter opened with the score 14 to 0 in favor of Ocala. Leesburg kicked off with Gilchrist doing the kicking for the Jackets. Ocala got the ball on their own 12 yard-line. The Wildcats started another one of their long hard hitting running attacks and they marched from their own 12 yard line to the Leesburg's 10 yard line and McCully on a wide end sweep went over for the Wildcat's third touchdown. Chazal's kick for the extra point was wide and no good. This made the score 20 to 0 in favor of Ocala. Ocala kicked off to Leesburg and Bennett got the ball on his own 26-yard lien. After trying two running plays and one pass but still failing to make first down, Broadway kicked out and Ocala got the ball on their own 41-yard line. Ocala ran one first down and the quarter ended with Ocala on the Leesburg 26-yard line.

The fourth quarter opened with a ball from Michael to McCully for 15 yards. Three plays later Ocala kicked and Broadway got the ball on the Leesburg 26-yard line. After three running plays Broadway kicked out. Ocala got the ball on their own 41-yard line. They ran a first down and tried a pass but it was incomplete. Two plays later Jarard, second string half back for Ocala, got away for 23 yards and the game ended with the score 20 to 0 in favor of Ocala.
