Leesburg rebounds, beats Lake Weir 49-6
LAKE SPORTS - LEESBURG AT LAKE WEIR
CANDLER - Leesburg running back Tory Harrison had a career night, rushing for 323 yards and scoring four touchdowns Friday night as the Yellow Jackets defeated Lake Weir 49-6.
Harrison scored on runs of 38, 45 and 62 yards -- all in the second half and on a 10-yard pass reception on the final play of the second quarter.
It was Lake Weir's 13th consecutive loss and its 32nd loss in the past 33 games, dating back to 2002.
The victory helped Leesburg erase the memories of last week's fourth-quarter collapse against Lecanto, when the Yellow Jackets gave up two fourth-quarter touchdowns and lost 28-26.
Leesburg (2-1, 1-0) played a nearly flawless first half. Harrison rushed for 132 yards on 14 carries in the opening half, but perhaps his best run came on the final play of the half. Leesburg scored as time expired when quarterback Mark Smith hit Harrison at about the 7-yard line and Harrison made a dive into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown play.
Leesburg's defense swarmed Lake Weir throughout the first half. In the first quarter the Hurricanes (0-4, 0-1) had 0 yards rushing and only 14 yards passing. For the half, they had just 20 yards of offense.
