LEESBURG - Danny Trevathan is finally getting the national recognition he deserves. Trevathan was an absolute beast last week, as he has been all season long. He had 17 tackles, three for loss, a sack and two forced fumbles against Georgia and appeared to be in on every play. He now has 17 tackles in three of UK’s last four games.

For the third time in four games he had a career high 17 tackles and is the Co-SEC defensive player of the week. How Danny isn't one of 12 for the Butkas award, given to the best linebacker, is mystifying.

University of Kentucky Head Coach Joker Phillips
"He's just amazing to watch," Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips said. "He alone willed the defense to play the way they played Saturday. We continue to tell them to come up to his level, and everyone on defense tried to play better than they were capable of. I think a lot of that had to do with the way Danny Trevathan played."

If you are thinking the obvious, that if Danny played for Alabama, LSU or Auburn, not only would he be a finalist, he'd have a shot at winning. He's that good. But he plays for the University of  Kentucky.

Trevathan is third in the country in tackles. He also has five forced fumbles, four interceptions and three sacks in one of the best defensive seasons in school history.

"It would be hard for me to find 12 better linebackers than Danny as far as production," Phillips said. "He's playing in a pretty good league, and the production that he has had the last two years, if he matches his last couple of weeks, we're talking a guy that could have over 150 tackles in this league in one season."
