Noor Davis is accustomed to being recognizedfor his prowess on the football field.

The Leesburg High School senior is considered one of the nation’s top outside linebackers, including being rated as the top prospect by at least one national recruiting service.

He’s the type of player opposing coaches gameplan for, trying to devise ways to neutralize his speed and strength, without taking too much away from their offensive strengths.

Still, despite the notoriety and accolades, Davis has remained humble. When he’s asked to speak about his personal successes, Davis is likely to deflect the attention off himself and direct it at his coaches and teammates.

Davis maintained those traits on Thursday when he was presented with his game jersey for the fifth annual Under Armour All-America High School Football Game during a ceremony in front of his family, teammates, coaches and school officials.

Considered one of the top postseason games for high-school standouts, the game features 90 of the nation’s top players. It is scheduled for Jan. 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg and will be shown nationally on ESPN.

Davis is the only area player named to play in this year’s game.

“I’m honored to have been selected to play in the Under Armour All-America High School game,” Davis said. “There are so many great players around the country and it is a blessing to be considered among them. What makes it even more special is that I can share this moment with my family, my teammates, my coaches and my teachers here (at Leesburg High School).

“Any success I’ve enjoyed on the football field is because so many people have cared enough to help me achieve my dreams.”

Despite missing three games this season for the Yellow Jackets, Davis is third on the team with 2 1/2 sacks and leads the team with nine tackles for loss. He also enters today’s regular-season finale against Ocala Lake Weir with 24 tackles, despite being double- and triple-teamed when he has played.

Davis tranferred from The Villages in June and immediately fit into coach Randy Trivers’ defensive scheme. Trivers said Davis has never asked for special treatment, despite the national recognition he’s received.

“He’s been a wonderful teammate and a very coachable young man,” Trivers said. “He’s a classy young man and has always been willing to do whatever we’ve asked of him. Not only is Noor a talented football player, but he’s also an outstanding student.

“He’s a great ambassador for Yellow Jackets football.”

Davis said he learned in March that he was being considered for the game. With numerous high school all-star games being played around the nation every year, Davis said he sat down with his parents to discuss his options.

He learned about the Under Armour game after attending one several years ago when current University of Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins — a family friend — was invited to play. After considering the proximity of the Under Armour game to his Lake County home, Davis said it was “relatively easy” to make his choice.

“Because the game is in Florida and we will practice for a week at Walt Disney World (ESPN Wide World of Sports) leading up to the game, a lot of the best players in the country will play in this game,” Davis said. “It’s a chance to stay closer to home and be exposed to a higher level of play. The game will be a great opportunity to prepare myself to compete at the next level.”
