LEESBURG - The Leesburg Yellow Jackets amassed nearly 300 yards in the first half as they rolled to a 50-14 victory over Lake Weir at Dabney Stadium Friday night.

Sophomore Toris Carter and senior Robert Fields led the potent Jacket running attack.
Leesburg (2-3) scored on its first three possessions and never had serious competition afterward.

The rushing attack blended well with some key passing completions, which proved to be too much for Lake Weir to overcome.

Leesburg used a two-quarterback platoon system.

``We wanted to get some pressure off Cory Wilson. Jason Currington has played well and earned the right to direct the club,'' Coach Bud O'Hara said.

The victory was particularly sweet for O'Hara, as he watched Leesburg tally 50 points on the weekend the second-year Jacket coach celebrates his 50th birthday.

``We're making progress but we're still not where we ought to be,'' O'Hara said.

``We are showing improvement but we need to be able to play with schools of our size.''

Leesburg was ahead, 28-0, in the second quarter, and it appeared that the final score would be even more of a blowout than it was until Shonda Henderson intercepted a pass and ran 80 yards for Lake Weir's first score.

Leesburg then racked up three unanswered scores and led, 50-6, after three periods.

Carter led the Jackets' scoring with three touchdowns, and Fields added two. Dominique Cartwright and Jon Landis scored the other two Jacket touchdowns.
