BELLE GLADE - The Leesburg Yellow Jackets seemed bent on beating two ball clubs last night. During the first half they treid to beat themselves and went to the locker room at half time trailing 23-6. During the second half they tried to beat Belle Glade, so they outscored the Rams 30-0. Since they scored more points trying to beat Belle Glade, than they gave up trying to beat themaselves, they won 36-23.

Leesburg took the opening kickoff and couldn't move the ball. On fourth down Larry Hujmes went back to punt, Andy Carlton, who was centering, dribbled the ball at him. Humes watched the ball bounce past him, Belle Glade's Tony Williams grabbed the loose ball and went to the end zone for an easy score. Sonny Crawfords try for the PAT was wide to the left.

The Rams kicked off again, and the Jackets failed to move again. Once more Humes dropped back to punt, once more Carlton (who must have had his mind on th eupcoming basketball season) dribbled the ball to him. This time Humes picked the ball up and tried to run, but was tackled before he gained two yards. The Rams took over on the Leesburg 15-yard line. The jacket defense held for two downs, but onthird down Mark Newman hit Williams with a 15-yard scoring pass. Newman then hit Billy Thiebaud for the two point conversion. The score Belle Glade 14, Leesburg 0.

The teams exchanged punts and then Leesburg started to drive. The Jackets ran 15 plays and picked up five first downs before Mike Napier hit Greg Williams with an eleven yard tourchdown pass. The try for two failed.

Belle Glade took the kcikoffand they started to drive. The Rams got the ball once more before the half ended. They moved to the Leesburg 10 yrad line, then the Jackets defense got tough. With fourth down and one yard to go, the Rams sent in Sonny Crawford to try a twenty yard field goal. The ball cleared the Crossbar with about an inch to spare. The first half ended. with the score, as the PA announcer said, "Belle Glade 23, Leesburg ONLY 6.

THE JACKETS CAME TO PLAY IN THE SECOND HALF

Belle Glade took the kickoff and ran three plays, then fumbled. Then the Jackets went to work. They took four plays to score, with Napier going over from the five. Napier hit Williams for two and the gap was narrowed to 23-14.

The Jacket defense was then unmovable, led by Sam Rixie and James Mackey they repeatedly threw the Ram's backs for losses. The Rams were forced to punt. The Jackets started to drive again, taking fourteen plays to score, the touchdown coming on a one yard run up the middle by Mike Chatman. The try for two failed and the score was 23-20.

The awesome Jacket defense went to work again, wrecking havoc in the Ram backfield. On one play, one of the Jacket defenders tackled the quarterback, a halfback, and a blocking guard all at the same time. The Rams were forced to punt.

Leesburg ran three plays, then Napier hit Williams with a beautiful 43 yard touchdown pass. Napier ran for two and the Jackets led 28-23.

Belle Glade was then beat mentally and physically. Leesburg scored once more, before the end, on a 20 yard scamper by Napier. Napier also ran for the two point conversion.

Final score Leesburg 36, Belle Glade ONLY 23.

Napier and Williams played an outstanding second half, leading a team that was behind by seventeen points at halftime, to a thirteen point victory.

The Jacket defense was also fantastic in limiting the Rams to only one first down in the second half.
