Vasco Thompson signed a grant-in-aid with Bethune-Cookman College of Daytona Beach last week. The outstanding performer for coach Max Wettstein gained 465 yards rushing his senior campaign while pulling in 12 passes. He scored seven touchdowns.
"They plan to use me at running back," Thompson said. "James Mackey, who attended Leesburg High and played for Bethune, helped me get a chance with them."
Thompson injured a knee during the Jackets appearance in the Rotary Bowl game against Orlando Evans.
"I sprained the knee then'" Thompson added.
"But when I went out for baseball. I really hurt it seriously." Surgery was performed in January but Thompson says he'll be back to normal when football season rolls around.
