A multitude of Injuries, none of which are regarded as serious in nature, hampered practice at Leesburg High Monday as the Yellow Jackets prepare for their last home stand of the year against Maynard Evans High of Orlando. The Jackets will close out their season with a visit to Eustis next week.
The injury list read like the starting lineup with ends Gerald Fletcher still bothered by a pinched nerve in his shoulder and Joe Heath nursing a bad ankle heading the list. Hunt Paulling was a new-comer to the walking wounded but is expected to be off and running come Friday night. In the backfield Lynn Bates with a knee condition and Bobby Lowery and Johnny Ward with jammed thumbs were joined by Roger Clark. David Roberts who missed three games this year, recovering from a hand injury, is back in action but has still a long ways to go to catch up with the rest of the squad who have made such a good showing of themselves in the last four games.
The Jackets have been fortunate thus far this year that none of their injuries have been serious. This is a tribute to the fine physical condition of the boys and the pace that head coach Whitney Smith and his staff have been putting them through.
Dickie Huff continued to show improvement on the practice field this week and may see his share of action come Friday night. The schedule this week calls for a full complete practice and scrimmage this morning with school out followed by drill tomorrow without pads. Kickoff time Friday Night will be at eight with the high stepping Yellow Jackets band, the cheerleaders, and the Majorettes headed by Dawn Lorenzto add to the color and excitement of high school football.
