LEESBURG  - The (5-1, 1-1) Leesburg Yellow Jackets enter this Fridays contest on the Orlando Sentinel Super 16 High School Football Poll watch list. Their opponent Friday night from neighboring Sumter County, (5-1) Bushnell South Sumter High School is ranked #16 in the poll. The Raiders are also the #5th ranked team in the Class 4A State Football Poll.

Leesburg will travel to Bushnell to take on Inman Sherman's Raiders for its fourth road game in five weeks. The Jackets only loss on the season was to Clermont East Ridge High School at the Dungeon on the campus of  East Ridge. East Ridge is listed on the Super 16 Watch List this week.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Jackets next week the Fightin' Yellow Jackets will face another Super 16 opponent (5-0, 2-0) Orlando Maynard Evans at newly renovated Double E stadium in Orlando Florida. This will be the fifth road game in six weeks for second year head coach Randy Trivers battle tested Jackets. The Jackets will be playing in the their third and crucial Class 7A District 4 game of the season against the Trojans. Evans is ranked #9 in this weeks Super 16 poll.

The area's best football teams, as ranked by Sentinel Varsity staff:

1. Dr. Phillips (6-0): Panthers pushed by Boone (1-4) in 35-27 win. Next game: Thursday at No. 8 Edgewater (3-2), 7:30.

2. Lake Brantley (6-0): Potent Patriots are chasing first district title since 2007. Next game: Friday at No. 7 Olympia (4-2), 7:30.

3. DeLand (4-1): 99-yard pick-six by DB David Taylor turned 21-7 win over Neptune Beach Fletcher (4-2). Next game: Friday vs. Deltona (0-6), 7.

 

4. Mainland (4-1): Defense on tear with four shutouts, three in a row. Next game: Friday vs. Palm Bay (3-2), 7.

5. Osceola (5-1): Kowboys have put up 42 points in their past four wins. Next game: Oct. 20 at Harmony (2-4), 7:30.

6. Freedom (4-1): District showdowns with Boone (Oct. 21), DP (Nov. 4) to come. Next game: Friday at Kissimmee Liberty (2-3), 7:30.

7. Olympia (4-2): Primed to take first district title in 11 years of football. Next game: Friday vs. No. 2 Lake Brantley (6-0), 7:30.






8. Edgewater (3-2): Junior QB J.B. Woodman passed for 394 and 4 TDs last week. Next game: Thursday vs. No. 1 Dr. Phillips (6-0), 7:30.

9. Evans (5-0): A victory from first winning season since 2004 (6-4). Next game: Thursday at No. 10 Winter Park (3-2), 7:30.

10. Winter Park (3-2): Off open week, can Wildcats solve Evans' tough defense? Next game: Thursday vs. No. 9 Evans (5-0), 7:30.

11. Oviedo (4-1): Second-half schedule is significantly tougher, starting Thursday. Next game: Thursday at East River (3-2), 7:30.

12. Timber Creek (3-2): East River win huge in bid for sixth consecutive playoff appearance. Next game: Thursday vs. Winter Springs (1-4), 7.

13. West Orange (4-2): Fell two points, a play or two short of defeating No. 7 Olympia. Next game: Oct. 21 at Apopka (2-3), 7:30.

14. Bishop Moore (5-1): 103 points in consecutive games might be school record. Next game: Oct. 21 at Eustis (2-4), 7.

15. Lake Mary (5-1): Rams have scored 30 or more every game in 5-game win streak. Next game: Oct. 21 at Orange City University (2-3), 7.

16. South Sumter (5-1): Huge 22-21 win vs. Starke Bradford equaled win total of past two years (5-15). Next game: Friday vs. Leesburg (5-1), 7:30.

She started photographing as a hobby when she was 13 with a manual SLR Canon film camera. In 1998 she received her first automatic Canon SLR camera. In the begining as a hobby photographer her cousins and friends babies were her favorite subjects. Now, she is getting the chance to share her Leesburg High School football pictures with many people through Facebook and the Leesburg Yellow Jackets Football blog.

"It makes me happy to do that because I know there are families out there that would love to have pictures of their boys playing football and can't get to the games or don't have the means to record those memories."
