Jackets In College: Clay Sampson is OAC's Top Back, November 28, 1979

CLEVELAND (AP) - Tailback Clay Sampson (Leesburg High School, Leesburg Florida) of Denison and center Blake Moore of Wooster won offensive honors, while linebacker Mike Hoon of Baldwin-Wallace and tackle Joe Govern of Wittenberg took the defensive awards as the outstanding football players in Ohio Athletic Conference in 1979. 

Sampson was named the OAC's outstanding offensive back by the leagues coaches. He ran Denison's single wing attack and OAC single season records by rushing for 1,517 in 323 carries, running 412 offensive plays and piling up 2,225 yards in total offense.

Dave Maurer of Wittenberg, who team takes on Ithaca Saturday for the NCAA Division III title, was named OAC coach of the Year for the fifth time. His teams have carved out a 97-14-3 record and won five outright OAC titles and shared another in his ten years at Wittenberg.
