Former Jackets Asibey-Bonsu And Matthews Teams Face Each Other, September 10, 2011

JACKSONVILLE - Former Leesburg High School Standouts Dontra Matthews and James Asibey-Bonsu teams faced other in the 8th Annual Ralph Bunche Classic between Virginia University of Lynchburg and Edward Waters College held in Kingsland, Georgia on September 10, 2011. 


The final score was 29-21. Sophomore strong safety, Monte' Robinso (Portsmouth, VA) received the Defensive Player of the Game award. Robinson finished the game with nine tackles and one forced fumble.

Brandon Turman ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another to lead Edward Waters College past Virginia University of Lynchburg 29-21.

The win was the first for new head football coach Brad Bernard. It also gave the Edward Waters Tigers more wins than all of last season.
 
Edward Waters (1-1) racked up 314 rushing yards with its new option offense. The Tigers only threw seven passes in the game.

Phillip Teamer added 154 rushing yards, Sam Charles had two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown, and Anthony Bellamy had a rushing score for the Tigers.

Matthews 6-2, 170 plays DB for Virginia University of Lynchburg and is a redshirt freshman. Matthews played under former Leesburg head coach Charles Nassar.

Asibey-Bonsu 5-10, 210 plays DT for Edwards Waters College and is sophomore. Asibey-Bonsu played under Nassar and current head coach Randy Trivers at Leesburg High School.
