LEESBURG - Be on the lookout for Max Green this year. He came up big defensively in the Tavares game and will benefit from the double and triple team blocking schemes designed to stop Under Armour All-American OLB Noor Davis. Don't be surprised if he has more double digit tackle games this year. Green also did his part in the scoring as he recorded a safety in the first half. For his efforts Friday he was awarded game MVP by Randy Trivers and the Leesburg coaching staff.

The defense was dominating at times but spent too much time on the field due to the offense inability to sustain long drives.

The punting game has played well with R.J. Peppers who signed a scholarship to play with Towson University this fall. Tavares had bad field position all night as a result of the punting game.

Emanuel Nelson is proving himself as a durable back that can take the pressure off the Leesburg's passing game. Nelson's effective running has allowed Head Coach Randy Triver's to install play-action in his high octane offense. Nelson's running helped take time off of the clock and give the defense much needed rest. The defense proved that with rest it can win a lot games down the stretch in the 4th quarter.

Former Leesburg Offensive Coordinator Greg Malling
The Jackets offense has struggled early. The departure of 2010 offensive coordinator Greg Malling to Arrowhead High School in Wisconsin, has the Jackets offense out of sync. The Jackets had only 90 yards of offense in the half Friday night, and only 6 yards passing. With a healthy D'Mauri Jones in 2010 the passing game accounted for almost 2000 yards. The offense clearly missed Jones Friday night as he sat out with a ankle injury.

Under Armour All-American OLB Noor Davis
Transfers have made a immediate impact on the Yellow Jacket defense. Noor Davis who is rated as the nations #1 OLB by www.rivals.com, showed the Jacket nation that he deserves that ranking. Davis had 4 tackles for losses equaling -24 yard. Even though he has verbally committed to Stanford his stock continues to rise with every school in the nation. Look for Florida's big three (Florida State, Miami and Florida) to continue to pursue Davis up until national signing day.

#8 DB Trey Perry
Trey Perry is the real deal he has been flying under the recruiting radar and will benefit from the large media circus that has developed under second year Head Coach Randy Trivers. Perry came up big time and time again in Fridays game.

Penalties by the defense kept Tavares in the game. Look for the Jackets to be more discipline this week against Eustis.

Sophomore Bryant Benton
Sophomore Bryant Benton 5'7" will be a vital player in this years defense down the stretch. The sophomore played with a lot of poise in Friday's game, don't be surprised if he plays his way onto the All-Area team this season.

Second Year Leesburg High School Head Football Coach Randy Trivers
Leesburg Head Coach Randy Trivers was pleased with his team's overall performance and looks forward to this Fridays game against the Eustis Panthers.

"It was a good overall team effort." said Leesburg Coach Randy Trivers. "Defense and special teams played well. Offense made some big plays in the second half to break it open. Whenever you can come out and win the first game, we're happy"

The Jackets received votes in the Class 7A state poll this week. They are also on the Orlando Sentinel "Football Super 16" Watch List.

Carver Heights Quarterback Club "BIG TIME PERFORMERS"

Defense

Max Green - 1 sack for a safety. Double digit tackles.

Noor Davis - Double digit tackles 4 tackles for loss.

Trey Perry - Had several key 3rd down pass breakups.

Jordan Tucker - Was around the football all night.

Brandon Foor - Returned a interception for a touchdown to break open a close game.

Offense

Julliard Roberts - The two-sport star who played on the Class 4A State Champion Basketball team showed his athletic ability. He made acrobatic catches all night. His 45 yard reception help set up Emanuel Nelson 5 yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach.

Emanuel Nelson - Scored two rushing touchdowns and carried the Jackets offense in the first half.

Jalen Dozier - The senior broke open a close game with a explosive 75 yard run on the first offensive play of the second half to set up the first offensive touchdown of the 2011 season.

Leesburg Offensive Line -  The offensive line opened up big holes in the Tavares defensive line and gave the Leesburg passing game great pass protection all night.
