Tom Bohr spent his first week at Memphis State University making the switch from his high school position of offensive tackle to defensive noseguard. And the former Yellow Jackets says that's fine with him.

"I like it much better," he said. "There's more action and more recognition playing that position. It took me about a week to get all of the defensive techniques down to play adequately."
Defensive line coach Ken Floyd said Memphis State made the change because "we needed a noseguard and we felt Tom was the one who could best do the job. He's going to be a very good football player before he finishes his college career. All he needs is experience playing in this new position."

Bohr said he was surprised at practice when he was one of the smaller men on the field, since he was always one of the largest in High School.

"I was in the best shape I have ever been in, but I still got sore," he added.

Tom dressed for the Tigers first home game, a 27-9 victory over Tulane, althugh he didn't play.

"There are two guys ahead of me, and unless one of them gets hurt, which I hope doesn't happen, I probably won't see much action this fall. The coaches have treated me very fairly and the better guys are going to get the playing time"

Another former LHS product, Alvin Bailey is starting Safety for Lees-McRae College. Bailey played some as a freshman in '76 and now appears ready to make his mark for the Bobcats.

In the opener last week Lees-mcRae dropped Western Carolina on a muddy field.
