Baby Jackets Bow, September 9, 1969

H.O. DABNEY STADIUM, HOME OF THE LEESBURG YELLOW JACKETS
September 9, 1969
Fumbles, interceptions and mistakes plagued Leesburg High's Junior Varsity last night, and DeLand's Bullpups capitalized heavily for a 44-8 victory.

The
Baby Yellow Jackets found most of what they did well stymied in the opener of the 1969 season, and though quarterback Kenny Joe Nappi displayed promising passing form which was successful on occasion, he suffered from a line which let Bullpups through frequently.

This resulted in three interceptions which were run back for touchdowns, and one occasion in which a rushing DeLand player wrestled the ball from his hands and dashed for a score.

Fumblitus cost the Baby Jackets opportunities also. Late in the fourth quarter, Frank Ezell grabbed one of the several passes he caught this one from Jeff Hancock - scampered to the DeLand six yard line, but watched the ball go over on the next play because of a fumble

Ezell, perhaps the brightest light of a gloomy evening, played a fine game at linebacker as well as slotback on offense. He made several tackles by himself and was in much of Baby Jacket gang tackling. Jim Kay also distinguished himself at linebacker.

The Baby Jackets scored first, on a 12 yard run by Nappi, but watched the score mount to 36-6 before they added another score, a safety.
