Gerald Lacey One On One With Chase O'Donell

Gerald Lacey:
Good morning Chase how are you?

Chase O'Donell:
Hello Gerald I am doing good.

Gerald Lacey:
How does it feel to be part of a long list of Yellow Jacket linebackers to have a opportunity to play college football

Chase O'Donell:
"It feels great to be in the same boat as all the other guys college football has always been a dream of mine and now I'm living it!"

#44 Chase O'Donell at Thiel College.

Gerald Lacey:

What made you choose Thiel College and who else did you have receive offers from?

Chase O'Donell:
"I chose Thiel college because of coach (John) Harakal, thats basically the main reason for me going all the way to Pennsylvania but I love it here and its always nice to be ahead of the other guys as far as knowing the system."

"I received offers from about 20 other schools mostly division III but about five Division II schools."

Gerald Lacey:
Could you name some of the schools?

Chase O'Donell:
"Bethany College, St. Vincent College, Grove City College, Stetson University, Weber International University, Methodist University, Cornell University, The Cumberlands and Point University"

Gerald Lacey:
You are known as "Urlacher" based on the way you played the game with a blue collar work ethic. Where did you get that work ethic from?

Chase O'Donell:
"I think my work ethic is brought out by the game. Football is something special and something I'm very passionate about. "Its a challenge and it brings out the best in people."

Gerald Lacey:
Has it been a big adjustment going from high school to college football?

Chase O'Donell:
"As far as the change from high school to college the biggest thing has been the speed of the game, its difficult going from one of the best players around Lake County to having a whole team of best guys from their own schools playing right next to you."

Gerald Lacey:
What part has your parents played in you athletic career?

Chase O'Donell:
"My parents have been the driving force in my career thus far I wouldn't be here right now without them and that I'm sure of."

Gerald Lacey:
What will be your major at Thiel?

Chase O'Donell:
"I'll be a pre dental/chemistry major at Thiel."

Gerald Lacey:
Do you expect to see playing time this upcoming season are will you be a redshirt?

Chase O'Donell:
"I will being playing some this year, how much I guess depends on how I do in games."

 Gerald Lacey:
What type of defense does Thiel run and what position will you play there?

Chase O'Donell:
"Thiel runs the same defense that we ran in high school a 4/3 with a lot of blitzing and we can do some other things as well."

Gerald Lacey:
You were a part of the resurgence of Leesburg High School Football how does that make you feel as you look back on your great high school career?

Chase O'Donell:
"It's a bitter sweet feeling looking back, I definitely thought we were good enough to go deep in the playoffs but it just didn't work out the way we wanted and that's just part of life and I'm always proud to be a Jacket and wish the team good luck."

Chase O'Donell:
"I was a team captain, the team leader in tackles and the defensive player of the year."

Gerald Lacey:
Did Coach Trivers program prepare you for what you are seeing at the college level?

Chase O'Donell:
"Coach Trivers prepared me immensely for college especially with the conditioning and being mentally tough."

"Max Green, Diontre Cornish (Former Jackets teammates now Thiel College teammates)  and me have been breezing through all the running and punishment that's been given so far so I have to give credit to coach T for that."

Gerald Lacey:
Thank you Chase for taking time out for this interview on gameday good luck this season.

Chase O'Donell:
"Thanks Gerald"
