Leesburg linebacker Noor Davis was awarded the Dick Butkus Award as the nation’s top high school linebacker Monday afternoon in a ceremony at the school.
Butkus, the Hall of Fame linebacker who played nine years for the Chicago Bears and is considered one of the best to play the game, was present for the award presentation and surprised Davis when he walked out of a closet in the football team’s meeting room.
Davis, who has committed to Stanford University, is the second consecutive Florida player to receive the award. Last year’s recipient, Tony Steward, played at St. Augustine Menendez, and is a freshman linebacker at Clemson University.

LEESBURG - Leesburg High School (Leesburg, Florida) linebacker Noor Davis made his last official recruiting visit last weekend when he visited the University of California. Davis verbally committed to Stanford University earlier this year and stands firm on the commitment. Davis has been encouraged by his parents to weigh out all of his options before National Signing day.
Davis has already made official visits to Alabama, Stanford and Auburn this season. An Orange County native, Davis watched the USC Trojans 50-0 shellacking of UCLA Saturday night.
"I wanted to get an inside look at USC," said Davis in a interview with Gerard Martinez of USCFootball.com. "I have tremendous respect for their program and their school. It's always been a great university and very prestigious - a powerhouse. I really wanted to get a closer look.
"I had a chance to spend time with the players and coaches to see how close they are as a team, which is very special. It was a neat set up with the pep rally before each home game and the Trojan Walk. Those things were interesting and very unique to their program.
"They wanted me to get an inside look at the program, so I sat in on all of the meetings and got a close look as if I was a player at USC."
USC has recruited him as a linebacker, while visiting with USC Davis got details on where he would fit in the Trojans defense.
"Yes, they said I could play any one of the three linebacker spots, but they definitely want me on the outside," said Davis to Gerard Martinez . "They feel like I could be a Brian Cushing or Clay Matthews type that could walk up to the line in a 3-4 package and utilize my pass rush abilities."
Traditionally, USC has run a base 4-3 defense, which is the defense Davis played in for head coach Randy Trivers at Leesburg High School. The team's big win over its rival UCLA and the Los Angeles Coliseum's scene had the 2012 Under Armour All-American leaving Los Angeles impressed USC.
"It was a great environment, and a packed house," said Davis. "The fans were very rowdy and into the game. It was a big rivalry game against UCLA and the players reacted very well. It was very intense and they were very focused.
"It showed in the outcome of the game, which was not pretty. I knew USC was a great team and that they were playing for everything because they could not go to a bowl game. So I expected a three to four touchdown win, but not a seven touchdown win."
While on the official visit Davis had a chance to stand on the Los Angeles Coliseum sidelines and speak with fellow four-star linebacker recruits Jabari Ruffin and Scott Starr. With two commits at linebacker for USC, and three freshmen starting at linebacker this season, Davis sees a bright future for the Trojans' defense.
"They're going to have a great team, and they always have been traditionally," said Davis. "I think there's no question that they're going to have success. Not just with Jabari and Scott, but with their team as a whole and their coaching staff. I wish them the best of luck."
Davis still remains firmly committed to Stanford with no sign of changing before National Signing Day.
"USC is a school that would be high on my list, but I am still firmly committed to Stanford," said Davis.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Hayes Pullard was Davis host for the weekend while at USC.
"I enjoy competition, and I'd be willing to work wherever I go including Stanford" said Davis. "USC is a program not afraid to play their freshman and I respect that. They said that if you come in ready, you will play."
Over the next couple of months Davis will take time to analyze his visits and make a final decision on where he will play college football sometime in January.

LEESBURG – Noor Davis, senior football player from Leesburg High School, we be presented with his honorary game jerseys at the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game Thursday afternoon at Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida. The event is part of a four-month American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the Under Armour All-America Game.
"It is truly a high honor to have been selected as an Under Armour American," said Noor Davis Thursday morning. "There are so many great football players across the country and it is a blessing to be considered among them. However, it is even more special to share this moment with my family, my friends, my neighbors, my coaches, my teammates, my teachers and schoolmates, and with the Leesburg community."
"I cannot think of a better place to be recognized than right here at Leesburg High School."
Davis will be surrounded by family and friends at one of the most hype media events in the history of Leesburg High School. Davis is one of the most highly recruited player to ever come out of the Yellow Jacket football program. Second year head coach Randy Trivers has sent over 55 players to college on football scholarships during his 10 year high school coaching career.
"Being in a position to provide a positive contribution to my community does make me feel good. Since my transfer to Leesburg High School in June, I have felt nothing but love here in Yellow Jacket Nation," said Davis. "I am proud to be a part of the Leesburg community and to forever be associated with it."
"My parents and my little brother are trying to rearrange their schedules and are scrambling to be here," said Davis with a smile.
Davis is one of 90 players selected to compete in the fifth-annual Under Armour All-America Game presented by American Family Insurance, a nationally televised competition spotlighting the country’s top high school seniors. The 2012 Under Armour All-America Game is slated for Jan. 5, 2012, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.,and will be televised on ESPN.
Davis is ready to see how he matches up against the nations best high school football players in a game situation.
"Yes Sir. Absolutely! I look forward to competing at a high level and developing relationships with the players," said Davis.
Davis is currently ranked No. 17 overall in the ESPNU Top 150 and No. 1 at outside linebacker. Davis is committed to Stanford. Davis will be making a official visit to the University of Alabama this weekend. He has helped lead his the Jackets to a 7-2 (2-2) record at Leesburg in the 2011 season.
Davis has recieved scholarship offers from Stanford, Auburn, UCLA, USC, Florida State, Florida, South Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Louisville, LSU, Boston College, North Carolina, Nebraska, Syracuse, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, UCF, Miami, Purdue, South Carolina, and Tennesee.
Coach Trivers and Davis have downplayed the hype they are concerned with Lake Weir 2-6 (1-3) tomorrow night and a possible District Tiebreaker on Monday. Staying focus is the main topic today around the Yellow Jacket Football Program today.
"We (Coach Trivers) haven’t had the chance to really discuss it in detail. Although this ceremony will be an amazing experience, we are really focused on defeating Lake Weir tomorrow night and giving ourselves a chance to make the playoffs" Davis said.
The national Selection Tour sponsored by American Family Insurance is an expansion of the Under Armour All-America Game. As part of American Family Insurance’s involvement, the events will raise awareness around teen driving safety and recognize the student athletes, as well as the coaches, families and communities who have helped make these players’ dreams a reality.
“These athletes are achieving their dreams as result of their own dedication and the support of their coaches and teammates, their families and friends,” said Deborah Peterson, American Family Insurance’s customer relationship marketing director. “In turn,they are spreading the teen safe driving message to other students in the hope that they, too, will be able to reach their dreams.”

LEESBURG - Leesburg High School second year head coach Randy Trivers has produced a resume in his distinguished coaching career. Despite losing 37 seniors from last season he is making a name for himself already in the history books of Leesburg High School Football. In his first seventeen games as head coach at Leesburg he has compiled a 12-5 regular season record. This is the best start for any Jacket head coach since the 1973 and 74 football seasons.
The late Max Wettstein whose jersey is retired at Leesburg, led the Yellow Jackets to a 7-3 record in 1973 and a 7-0 (combined 14-3) start in 1974. The Jackets were ranked #1 in the 1974 Class 3A (there were only 4 classes at that time 4A,3A,2A and 1A) State Poll for several weeks in that year and would lose only once to the eventual state champion Ocala Forest High School. There have been seven different coaches since Wettstein and Trivers is off to a faster start then the previous seven.
Trivers' Jackets have reached a #16 ranking in the Orlando Sentinel Super 16 High School poll, #1 ranking in the Daily Commercial 13 and received votes in the Associated Press Class 7A Top Ten High School Poll. Trivers record at Leesburg High School after 17 games is 12-5, his overall coaching record is 85-32.
What is remarkable about this feat is that Trivers took over the reins at Leesburg in the summer of 2010. Trivers didn't have the opportunity to be with the team during the spring and he only had a few weeks with the team before the season. Leesburg had been a option football team for about the last thirty years and within a few weeks before the season implemented a hurry up spread offense that emphasized the passing game.
The result was a 6-4, (5-2) record and the best passing season stats wise for the Jackets in 41 years. The Leesburg offense broke several regular season passing records in 2011. The Jackets were in FHSAA Playoff contention all the way down to the last six minutes of the of the 2010 season. Trivers' offense tied the state record for the most passing touchdowns in a game in 2010 against Mount Dora.
Five players received college football scholarships Dondelaro Crosby was the first to sign in the Trivers era with Missouri State University, R.J. Peppers (Towson University), James Asibey-Bonsu (Edward Waters College), Luther McDowell (Monmouth College), and Tim Erving (Monmouth College).
Trivers has his Fighting Yellow Jackets back in the FHSAA Playoff hunt with a 6-1 (1-1) record going into Friday Class 7A District 4 showdown with Orlando Maynard Evans High School Trojans 6-0 (2-0) who are ranked #10 in the Associated Press Class 7A High School Football Poll this week. The Jackets two best players have missed most of the season with injuries. The nations #17 ranked player overall according to the ESPN150 High School Poll (6-4, 225) OLB Noor Davis has missed three games and most of two others with a hyperextended knee. 2012 University of Miami Commit WR D'Mauri Jones (6-5, 190) has missed two games and parts of 3 other games nursing a high ankle sprain. Trivers likes the position that his Jackets are in right now and that excitement has spread all over the Lakefront City of Leesburg.

"All our goals are still intact we want to be a playoff team," said Trivers. "In order to do that we still have plenty of football ahead us. Hopefully we will be better prepared to compete and get some wins in those district ball games." "That's a goal that we have and that's still very much achievable for us. So we are excited to be able to improve, work together and go after that goal."
After a devastating lost to East Ridge at the "Dungeon" in Clermont, Trivers team has regained focus and have come away with some impressive wins in the last few weeks. Last weeks epic 13-6 win over 5th ranked Bushnell South Sumter High School will be talked about for years to come. It doesn't get any easier for the Jackets as they face their second ranked opponent in a row. The Yellow Jackets will be on the road for the fifth time in six weeks and are banged up, but Trivers is very optimistic about his team chances down the stretch.

"We try not to let our guys look to far ahead than this one game," said Trivers. "It's a big picture and we let the guys know hey just because we lost one that doesn't mean that the season is over." "We got plenty of football to be played. All our goals that we have all the dreams we have are still sitting out there for us".
The road to ending Leesburg's 19 year playoff win drought goes through Orlando Maynard High School at Trojan Field formerly known as Double E Stadium.

She started photographing as a hobby when she was 13 with a manual SLR Canon film camera. In 1998 she received her first automatic Canon SLR camera. In the begining as a hobby photographer her cousins and friends babies were her favorite subjects. Now, she is getting the chance to share her Leesburg High School football pictures with many people through Facebook and the Leesburg Yellow Jackets Football blog.
"It makes me happy to do that because I know there are families out there that would love to have pictures of their boys playing football and can't get to the games or don't have the means to record those memories."

LEESBURG - The Leesburg High School Yellow Jackets returned home to Leesburg Memorial Field at Hubert O. Dabney Stadium last night for the first time in three weeks. It was homecoming and the Jackets were dressed in their all black uniforms for the second straight Homecoming game under second year head coach Randy Trivers. Corey Brinson bought his Lake Minneola High School Hawks into Leesburg for the first district game in the school's history. The Hawks were looking to upset the Jackets on their Homecoming night and pickup the school's first big signature win. The Jackets were simply too much for the Hawks as Leesburg upended the first year school 45-0 last night.

"We had one district team up to this point which we did not win," said Randy Trivers moments before the game. "We cannot afford to take anyone lightly or overlook anybody or past anybody." "Lake Minneola is not your average first year team, they do some things that are very impressive and they have some good athletes." "They're coach has done a very good job with them, we gotta go out their and play our best football game to win our Homecoming."
"We might take our lumps this year, like all first-year programs do, but we'll all be able to look back and realize these kids and this coaching laid the groundwork for all future successes Lake Min-neola will have on the football field," said Lake Minneola head coach Brinson on his teams youth and inexperience.
Homecoming usually provides a lot of distractions for a high school team and Trivers and his coaching staff wanted their team to stay focus on the task at hand. Lake Minneola a first year program with no seniors located in South Lake County came into the game with a 1-3 (0-0) record.
"Well you know that's the thing the head football coach whenever its homecoming you always have to deal with those distractions and a lot of things you mentioned but the whole key is you as the coach try to keep your team on the task in hand which is the football game," said Trivers. "Yeah there is a dance a parade there is a pep rally a powder puff game there is all of these different events going on." "You can have all those things you want but at the end of the day if you don't win the game none of that is no good"

The Jackets seem to have no problem with focusing on the task at hand as they took it right to the Hawks in the first possession of the game. On the opening possession on second and 10 after a incomplete pass the Jackets went to the I Formation with three backs in the backfield senior WR/RB/PR Jalen Dozier (Sr., 5-5, 150) took a handoff and went 64 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore PK James Eldridge P.A.T. was good and Leesburg led early 7-0 with 11:39 left in the first quarter.
Lake Minneola took over at 20 after a touchback. The Hawks defense couldn't move the football on its first possession and had to punt. The Hawks had -18 yards on their first possession of the game. Leesburg took over at the Lake Minneola 42 yard line. On first and 10 junior quarterback Undra Mitchem, Jr. hit Dozier with a 11 yard pass down to the Hawks 31 yard line. Three plays later on third and 7 Emmanuel Nelson picked up 21 yards on a carry down to the Hawks 5 yard line. On first and 10 Nelson picked up four yards setting up a second and goal from inside the 1 yard line. On the next play Mitchem went over the center for a quarterback sneak for a easy touchdown .The Eldridge P.A.T. was good giving Leesburg a 14-0 lead with 2:38 left in the first quarter. Leesburg presnap motion and up tempo offense seem to bother the Hawks young defense early.

"We always have a wrinkle or two that we put out there offensively and defensively every week there is always going to be a little something, but I think we plan to just come out and be aggressive on both sides of the ball and really take the fight to these guys."
Trivers knew he had to do something to keep the Hawks defense off balance early in the contest if he the Jackets were going to have any success on offense.
"They have a pressure defense that comes from all angles, they really like to pressure you and blitz you and disrupt you with a lot of different people with different combination blitzes coming into the box, said Trivers. "I like what they are doing with their schemes and they cause you some problems." "I mean they will hit you with a big play on offense and they can hit you with the big play on defense."

Leesburg's defense forced another 3 and out , after a Lake Minneola punt Leesburg took over on its own 37 yard line. Five plays later Jalen Dozier caught a 13 yard pass from Mitchem. Junior I Back Anthony Miller took a handoff and went 12 yards down to the Hawks 30 yard line. Two plays later on a third and 8 Mitchem scrambled for 18 yards down inside the 10 yard line. The Yellow Jackets couldn't punch it in from there and settled for a Eldridge 21 yard Field Goal. The Jackets lead now was 17-0 with 7:54 left in the half.
The Hawks received the kickoff again and Leesburg's defense wouldn't let them get untracked. 2012 Under Armour All-American OLB Noor Davis was back in the Yellow Jackets lineup after missing the previous three games and his presence was felt immediately. The Hawks could only muster up 4 first downs and two yards of total offense in the first half. The Jackets defense had given up a total of 88 points in the three games with the nations 1 OLB (according to www.rivals.com) Noor Davis was out of action.

"Defensively we are hoping to get back on track, you know we had a week there where we gave up some points and gave up some yards the last couple of weeks," said Trivers on his defensive woes the past two weeks.
With 5:14 left in the half Dozier returned a punt 35 yards for a touchdown that was called back on a clipping penalty. Leesburg started at midfield and went on a nine play drive that was aided by a 15 yard penalty on Lake Minneola on a Juilliard Roberts run. Undra Mitchem, Jr. had the big play on the drive with a 17 yard quarterback scramble down to the Hawks 13 yards line. Four plays later Dozier ran in from 3 yards out the Eldridge P.A.T. was good and now the Jackets had a commanding 24-0 lead with 2:38 left in the half.
They were six Leesburg High School Class Reunions at the game. It was a festive atmosphere at Hubert O. Dabney Stadium and there were parade floats located in every corner of the stadium. Even with a large lead the Jackets stayed focus and played a complete game.
"So you got to prepare, keep everything as normal and routine as possible," said Trivers on Homecoming distractions."You go out to play to win the game so its always a concern when you have things that take you out of your routine your preparation which we believe we have done so very much here but we try to keep it as routine as possible and keep our guys focus."

On Lake Minneola's next possession senior safety Zach Mahan picked off a Ricardo Housen pass and returned it 16 yards deep into Hawks territory. It was Mahan's first interception of the year for the "Black Jackets" defense. Three plays later Mitchem hit 2012 University of Miami (FL) commit D'Mauri Jones with a 10 yard back shoulder fade pass in the end zone for a touchdown. James Eldridge P.A.T. was good and with :33.8 left in the half the Jackets were up 31-0 on homecoming night. Mitchem finished the game completing 12 -of- 19 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
In the second half Lake Minneola went to its short passing game trying to take advantage of the speed of its skill position players. Noor Davis the nations #17 player according to ESPN150 and the rest of the "Black Jackets" defense were not having it.
"Offensively they are a shotgun team and a pistol formation team that has a lot of different looks that they can hurt you with," said Trivers. "They attack you with their scheme offensively so you got to be ready for a lot of different things."

Leesburg took over on its 46 yard line and went on a 8 play drive. Jones had a 9 yard carry on a end around and 2 receptions for 22 yards on the drive. Jones finished the game with 5 catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. After a 12 yard pass from Mitchem to Jones the Jackets had first and 10 from the twelve yard line. From their Jalen Dozier went off tackle for a 12 yard touchdown run. Dozier finished the game with 100 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns. The Eldridge P.A.T. was good and the Jackets led 38-0 with 4:02 left in the third quarter.
The Lake Minneola offense could not get anything going against the "Black Jackets" defense. Lake Minneola was held to 48 total yards offense on the night. The Hawks quarterback Ricardo Housen completed 6-of-9 passes for 49 yards and one interception. Marvin Hart rushed for 28 yards on two carries.
Senior Fullback Flint Hicks finished off the scoring with a 6 yard run his first touchdown of the year with 9:58 left in the game.
"Its Homecoming and I never really put stock into that," said Trivers on the Randy Trivers Show Friday before the game. That's for the alumni and all of that, for us its a football game a district football game that's the way we are approaching it that's the way we gotta handle it."

Lake Minneola's record falls to 1-4 (0-1), the loss was the worst in the history of their football program. It was the first time the Hawks have ever been shutout in a game. Leesburg earned a important Class 7A District 4 win is now 5-1 (1-1) and tied for second place in the district with Clermont East Ridge. The Jackets are 5-1 for the first time since 2005 when they finished 8-3 and lost in the first round of the FHSAA playoffs to St. Augustine Nease led by quarterback Tim Tebow.
Trivers understands the growing pains that Brinson faces starting a program from scratch. He did it in Maryland with Germantown Northwest High School and within 5 years won the Maryland Class 3A Football State Championship. He knows the issues that you face when bringing kids in from different schools but knows that with the talent in South Lake County that the Hawks will be in title contention in the near future.

"It's definitely a situation where you are trying to create a new culture and that's challenging and you are trying to start new traditions, new ways of doing things," said Trivers. "You have folks coming out of different programs, you are trying to bring people together so it takes a little bit of patience and perseverance when you are doing that." "Its getting those kids over that hump because sometimes you are going to have your growing pains particularly when you don't have the senior leadership in that first season that they don't have right now." "If they keep fighting and persevering they can have some real positive things happening to them and hopefully they will happen after we play them not during our game."
The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 against Lake County schools this season. Next Friday the Jackets will travel west to Sumter County to face perennial high school powerhouse Bushnell South Sumter High School. Game time is 7:30 P.M.

In the begining as a hobby photographer her cousins and friends babies were her favorite subjects. Now, she is getting the chance to share her Leesburg High School football pictures with many people through Facebook and the Leesburg Yellow Jackets Football blog.
"It makes me happy to do that because I know there are families out there that would love to have pictures of their boys playing football and can't get to the games or don't have the means to record those memories."
