LEESBURG -The Jackets defense crowded the line of scrimmage anticipating East Ridge to keep the football on the ground. It proved to be costly as Clermont East Ridge head coach Bud O'Hara had his team going to the passing game early in Fridays contest. East Ridge took advantage of Adrian Jones height over the Leesburg's smaller defensive backs. O'Hara teams are traditionally run oriented the but game plan was different for Leesburg on Friday.

Leesburg's defense had not allowed a running back to rush for a 100 yards all year. East Ridge running back Randy Bergen picked up 240 yards on 19 carries against the Jackets. The Jackets contained him the first half holding him to 30 yards.

East Ridge scored two touchdowns in the span of just over a minute in the second half Friday night.

University of Miami 2012 commit wide receiver D'Mauri Jones prescence was left by East Ridge in Friday's game. Jones played three plays in the Eustis game and none last week against Mount Dora. Jones was double covered most of the night. Jones finished the game with 7 catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jackets have never beaten East Ridge. O'Hara is 77-26 at East Ridge. His Lake County coaching record is 102-52, which includes five district titles and 10 playoff appearances.

Leesburg had only given up 28 total points in the first three games of the season. The Knights scored 38 points in the game Friday against the Jackets.

Under Armour All-American OLB Noor Davis sat out Friday's game and he was missed by the "Black Jackets" defense. Davis commands double and triple team blocking schemes by the opposing teams offense freeing up other Jacket defenders to make plays. Teams normally run away from his side of the field. Without him the Jackets had to crowd the box giving the taller East Ridge receivers one on one coverage most of the night. Joeworn Martin took advantage of the mismatches completing 8 of 22 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns.

Randy Bergen broke off four runs for over 21 yards in second half. He had runs of 54, 54, and 38 yards after the half keeping East Ridge drives alive.

East Ridge's defense has come up big in the secondary all year long. They had four picks in the second half against the Yellow Jackets. In their previous two wins they ended the game with a game ending interception.

Under Armour All-American OLB Noor Davis was missed on both sides of the football. He normally plays tight end in the Jackets two tight end offensive sets. His blocking was missed in the Jackets running game, which gained only 35 yards on the night. They had gained over 200 yards per game on the ground in 2011.

Penalties derailed the Yellow Jackets all night. They were penalized 13 times for 125 yards including 6 pass interference calls giving East Ridge six automatic first downs.

Senior running back Emmanuel Nelson came into the game with 43 carries for 312 and five touchdowns. He was averaging 7.2 yards per carry. The Knights defense held him to 16 carries for 34 yards and no touchdowns Friday. Junior running back Anthony Miller came into the game with 147 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Against East Ridge Miller had 1 carry for 1 yard and 0 touchdowns.

The Jackets used the halfback pass twice one for a touchdown the other one  was intercepted.

There was plenty of media at this game. The Orlando Sentinel's High School sports guru Buddy Collings and Daily Commercial Sports Editor Frank Jolley were in attendance Friday. There were several college scouts on hand to see some of the best high school football players in the nation.

The Jackets #13 ranking in the Orlando Sentinel Super 16 High School Football Poll ranking is in jeopardy after the loss to #16 East Ridge. East Ridge will probably become the #1 ranked team in the Daily Commercial 13 after Fridays win. Leesburg had been #1 all year long.

The Jackets were 3-0 in 2007 and were knocked from the unbeaten ranks by the East Ridge Knights 27-10. The University of Kentucky All-American LB Danny Trevathan and University of Louisville RB Jeremy Wright played in the 2007 game. Trevathan and Wright met again on September 17, 2011 Trevathan put a jarring hit on Wright causing him to fumble in the Kentucky loss.
