Miramar receiver Malcolm Lewis can’t wait until Wednesday.

Sure, National Signing Day is going to be pretty cool — especially if Lewis’ best friend and teammate, All-American cornerback Tracy Howard decides to spurn Florida and Florida State and follow him to the University of Miami.

But Lewis said he’s really more anxious about the package he’s supposed to receive in return from the Hurricanes once he faxes over his signed letter of intent.

“Once I sign, I’m supposed to get my workout and diet plans from UM, as well as a study guide, so I can learn things like plays, get familiar with what they do so I’m ready to go once I get there,” said Lewis, an All-Broward First Team selection by The Miami Herald who is ranked the 20th-best high school senior receiver in the country by ESPN.com.

“There’s never been an opportunity like this before [at UM] — so many open spots. I have to come in ready before we all get thrown in the fire.”

The Hurricanes, coming off a 6-6 season and facing looming NCAA sanctions, have a lot of needs — receiver high among them. With only four scholarship receivers on the roster (junior Allen Hurns, senior Kendall Thompkins and sophomores Phillip Dorsett and Rashawn Scott), UM is set to add six new names on Wednesday: Lewis, Palm Beach Central’s Angelo Jean-Louis, Homestead’s Herbert Waters, Leesburg’s D’Mauri Jones, Jontavious Carter of Crisp County High in Cordele, Ga. and Fork Union Military Academy’s Robert Lockhart, a former standout at West Boca Raton High before heading to prep school.
