| 2011 High School Butkus Award winner Noor Davis |
LEESBURG, Fla. – (December 5, 2011) – Noor Davis, a senior at Leesburg High School, has been honored with the 2011 high school Butkus Award® presented to the nation’s best linebacker by the award’s namesake Dick Butkus in a surprise ceremony at the high school today.
Davis was selected by a panel of 51 coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists coordinated by Pro Football Weekly. Davis joins Luke Kuechly of Boston College as 2011 Butkus Award honorees. The professional Butkus Award, last year won by Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers, will be announced in January 2012. Last year’s high school winner was Tony Steward of St. Augustine, Fla.
“All six high school finalists were extremely worthy choices with Noor Davis emerging from one of the closest votes we’ve ever had,” said Hub Arkush, editor of Pro Football Weekly. “As good a football player as Noor Davis is, he is an even better student and person. He is extremely smart, well-rounded and has endless potential. His big-play ability really stood out the last two years making him the choice among a group of real standouts.”
