Trevathan has four games left, wants more, November 4, 2011

Former Yellow Jacket #22 Danny Trevathan at the University of Kentucky

The outstanding career of UK linebacker Danny Trevathan is coming to a close. Unless the Wildcats (3-5, 0-4 SEC) really pull it together, Trevathan has four games left in blue and white. The team needs to win three of the next four, starting tomorrow at home against Ole Miss, to reach a bowl.

The Rebels have lost 11 consecutive SEC games. Their last win? Last year against UK. If not for that, Ole Miss would be riding a 14-game league losing streak. The Wildcats cannot allow themselves to be the Rebels’ lone SEC win in back-to-back seasons. That’s bad for the image.

It would also be bad for a guy like Trevathan, who has done everything he can to help UK win. I’ve written a story for tomorrow’s printed Courier-Journal on just how agonizing all these losses have been for the senior. He likely has an NFL future, but the guy wants to win now, with his friends.

Below is a sneak peek at tomorrow’s story. It’s most of the interviews for the story. First, a quick refresher on just how good Danny Trevathan has been for the Cats. He ranks first in the SEC and fourth in the country in tackles this year … after ranking first in the SEC and eighth in the country last year. Not too shabby. On a good team, this guy would be getting tons of national attention.

Check the stats:
2011 – 94 tackles, 7 TFL, 3 INT, 3 FF, 3 PBU, 2 sacks (in 8 games)
2010 – 144 tackles, 16 TFL, 4 FF, 2 PBU, 2 sacks
2009 – 80 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 FF
2008 – 5 tackles, 1 punt return for 10 yards (maybe should’ve redshirted this guy, no?)
TOTALS: 323 tackles, 27 TFL, 9 FF, 5 PBU, 4 sacks, 3 INT (18th player in school history with 300-plus tackles)

And here are the quotes. Mr. Trevathan is easily the most respected guy on this team, as you’ll see below (and probably already knew).

When the Eustis High School football team hosts South Lake on Friday night, it will do so with an interim head coach.

Jonathan Cannon, who led the Panthers to a 1-3 mark this season, and Eustis Principal Al Larry agreed to part ways after Friday's 39-8 home loss against Orlando Lake Nona.

The change was effective immediately, and Eustis' boys basketball coach and former Belleview football coach Mike Bowe will act as the team's interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Trey Perry is Leesburg's Next Big Recruit, October 19, 2011

Leesburg High School Senior Safety Trey Perry

LEESBURG - Senior DB/RB/KR Trevone "Trey" Perry (Sr., 6-0, 190) has quietly made his way on the national recruiting scene. Perry is a two sport athlete that can make a impact on a game no matter where he lines up at on the football field. He had his coming out party last Friday night against the fifth rank South Sumter Raiders at Raider Field in Bushnell. Perry broke open a 0-0 game on the first play of the third quarter with a 94 yard kickoff return.

"(Perry's) score was huge," Trivers said. "It gave us a lead and got us going. We needed a spark and Tre's run gave us one." "That was a key play," Leesburg coach Randy Trivers said of Perry's return. "The funny thing, I was watching the blocking and the way the play set up and I thought, 'If he catches the ball, he gone. That was a big play."

Perry saw his first extended time as running back last Friday after junior running back Anthony Miller sat out the game with a undisclosed injury. Perry finished the game with a 127 all purpose yards, a half dozen tackles and pass breakups in the upset win over South Sumter. He recently went on a unofficial recruiting trip to the University of Florida and watched Alabama beat the Gators at Florida Field.

Athletics are in his DNA, his sister Ashley Perry is a junior at Leesburg High School and led the Lady Jacket Basketball team in scoring last year. As a sophomore she lead the Lady Jackets to the Class 4A Girls Basketball State Final Four in 2010. It was the Lady Jackets third Final Four appearance in five years. Perry's father Bill Perry led Eustis High School to a Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship Game appearance in 1992. Perry's grandfather Mathis Walker led Leesburg High School to the 1977 Class 3A Boys Basketball State Championship. Walker was regarded as the best point guard in the state of Florida that year.

Perry has made a big impact from his safety position this year after transferring from Eustis High School where he flew under the recruiting radar. he is the best safety the Jackets have had since Marcus Niblack in the Early 90's.

After Friday's performance against South Sumter, college recruiters are starting to line up in hopes of signing Perry on National Signing Day. Don't be surprised if he ends up being the second Leesburg High School player to commit to the University of Miami for the 2012 season. So far the University of Florida is the front runner for Perry collegiate playing career.

"I spoke with school administration after Friday's game and we decided it would be best if the Eustis football program goes in a different direction," Cannon said. "I didn't quit on the football team or the program. It was a mutual decision and we felt it was to do it right now, rather than wait until the end of the season.

"Basically, I wasn't able to get it done."
