LEESBURG - Friday night Orlando L.C. Jones High School visited Leesburg Memorial Field at Hubert O. Dabney Stadium for the first time since 1985. The Jackets came into the game with hopes of finally getting a win over their one time district rival. World Class Sprinter and 2013 Florida State University football commit Kermit Whitfield helped dash any of Leesburg hopes with a All-American performance against the Jackets Friday night.

Orlando Jones powered past Leesburg 31 to 7 in the 2012 Preseason Kickoff Classic. The last time the Tigers made a appearance at Dabney Stadium there was also a kickoff and a interception returned for a touchdown against the Yellow Jackets by Jones. 

Leesburg's only score of the game was a 11 yard touchdown reception by Bryant "Mr. No" Benton. Despite it's offensive woes Leesburg lead the game 7-6 with 1:42 to go in the first half. 

Whitfield took over and scored on a 99 yard kickoff return and another one after taking a short pass from quarterback Jaquan Battle, breaking one tackle and turning it into a 55-yard touchdown. Whitfield also made his presence felt on defense, intercepting a Leesburg pass near the goal line late in the second quarter. Anfernee Blair returned a interception 23 yards for a touchdown as the Tigers took a 18-7 halftime lead.

Jones continued to dominate in the second half with two touchdown runs by T.J. Bryant to finish out the scoring for Jones on the night.

Leesburg will open it's season on the road this Friday night at Tavares.
